Be Careful On Wet Roads

Residents are urged to take care driving on wet roads following after recent heavy rainfall.
We have had some very heavy rainfall this week and Griffith City Council has urged residents to take caution in wet conditions.
Council Utilities crews have worked overnight redirecting high volumes of stormwater runoff through the system and diligently monitored flood waters.
Road crews have worked hard to keep an eye on local roads to assess and respond to road safety hazards swiftly.
The wet weather has made this work difficult, but signage was used to help keep everyone safe on our roads.
Motorists are urged to:
- Drive to the conditions;
- Take notice of temporary reduced speed limits and signage telling you to slow down;
- Don’t drive through flood water;
- Don’t drive around local roads to sightsee as this causes waves which could send water into homes.
Director of Infrastructure and Operations, Phil King advised against unnecessary travel where possible.
“If not possible, make sure to check the live road conditions before leaving,” Mr King said.
“Never drive through floodwaters.
“Even a small amount of water on the road is extremely dangerous and makes potholes harder to see.”
Mr King also asked people not to drive around sightseeing in flooded areas because you could inadvertently create waves which could send water flowing into homes.
