The team of PHL Surveyors celebrates 100 years of business.

PHL Surveyors is celebrating 100 years in business and last week they gathered with former and current directors and staff to acknowledge this significant milestone.

Current directors Gary Polkinghorne, Alan Longhurst and John Harrison acknowledged the hard work of all directors and staff. Clive Polkinghorne, spoke about the business’ history and challenges he and partner Derek Budd navigated over the years. Gary Polkinghorne explained one reason behind the company’s success.

“We have a very respectful, loyal and hardworking team who enjoy working together to provide our clients with excellent service,” Mr Polkinghorne said.

“I don’t think there are many businesses in Australia that are 100 years old, especially in rural areas”.

Harold Chauncy started the business in 1920. Clive, Wendy, Gary, Brett and Karen Polkinghorne have played a significant role in the business.

Gary Polkinghorne said his father, Clive started with Faulks and Hunt as an articled surveyor in the 1950s. “My brother and I are both registered surveyors and began our ‘apprenticeships’ at age 12 painting survey pegs in the back shed,” he said.

Director, John Harrison said they had weathered their fair share of storms over the years.

“We’ve ridden a lot of ups and downs and had to learn to navigate them by being adaptable and flexible while continuing to meet the needs of our clients,” he said.

PHL Surveyors has had a major role in the growth of the Murrumbidgee and Coleambally Irrigation areas and in many residential, commercial and industrial developments in the region.

Director Alan Longhurst, manager of the Bungendore office, said it was a privilege to have worked with PHL Surveyors for 37 years.
