COVID-19 vaccine hits Griffith

Staff at Griffith Base Hospital received their first round of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, March 26. The hospital’s COVID 19 Vaccination Clinic will join the existing AstraZeneca vaccination clinics run by NSW Health.
Approximately 760 hospital and health service staff will receive the vaccine over coming weeks as part of the Priority 1A and Priority 1B rollout.
The Australian government is leading the vaccine rollout, with the NSW government responsible for implementing parts of the program with a focus on prioritising vulnerable populations within the state.
Mobile teams will be deployed to smaller hospital sites across the district to ensure healthcare workers and aged care residents can be vaccinated as close to where they live as is possible.
Chief Executive Jill Ludford said she was pleased with the speed of the vaccination rollout across the district.
“We anticipate that all our staff and aged care residents living in our multi-purpose services will be vaccinated by the end of April,” she said. “This vaccine brings us another step closer to reducing the harm caused by the virus, and keeping vulnerable people in our communities safe.”
