The Grass Roots music program is back - bigger and better than ever and this year’s judges are looking forward to seeing what local talent has to offer after some truly amazing performances last year.
The Under 30s open mic competition will take place on Sunday, July 31 and be judged by local musicians Ben Ceccato and A Day in the Orchard music festival directors Luke Piccolo and Bonnie Owen.
Musicians thinking about entering this year will have the opportunity to attend a song-writing and performance workshop on Sunday, July 3 at the Griffith Regional Theatre from 11am to 3pm.
The workshop will be facilitated by Grass Roots founder and judge, Ben Ceccato and will feature Grass Roots alumni in an afternoon of interactive seminars supporting the artists’ approaches to songwriting and offering tips for performance delivery.
Registration for the workshop is $20 per person and is available via the Theatre’s website.
Co-judge, Bonnie Owen said Grass Roots was a search for exciting new talent in our region.
“We know there are budding artists out there ready to step out and share their music, so the addition of the song-writing and performance workshop is a brilliant opportunity to motivate artists to take that next step into performing, while upskilling, and encouraging networking in our arts community,” Ms Owen said.
The workshop is not a prerequisite to entering the competition but does aim to support emerging musicians in their journey to the stage for the competition.
Artists are encouraged to take their instruments and any original work to be developed during the session, to build the skills and confidence to perform.
The competition is open to all genres and styles of music. Grass Roots is in its fourth year and has seen many talented young musicians take the experience and exposure they’ve gained from the program to go on to pursue a career in music, writing and releasing songs, undertaking formal training through education and playing at festivals.
Stay tuned for further information prior to the competition takes place on Sunday, July 31 from 2pm.
