The Murrumbidgee Country Quilters biennial exhibition weekend is just around the corner, and you are all invited.

For two years, this group of 27 women work industriously to create as many beautiful hand-crafted quilts as possible for charity.

Group president Judith Lodding said this year’s exhibition was shaping up to be a huge success.

“We might be small in numbers, but we always have a big display of quilts and craft items at our exhibitions,” Mrs Lodding said.

“We’ve chosen the Motor Neurone Griffith and District Support Group to be this year’s beneficiary.”

Members from the support group will be catering morning and afternoon teas and a light lunch over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11 from 9 am to 4 pm.

This year’s event will be held at the newly renovated Woodside Hall at the Griffith Showgrounds.

Mrs Lodding said that members of the quilting group would be selling raffle tickets around town in the lead up to the event, with the first and second prizes being beautifully made quilts.

“This year, we are donating quilts to the Oncology department of Griffith Base Hospital and Country Hope,” she said.

Over the years, they have made and donated quilts to local nursing homes, Country Hope, fire victims on the South Coast; and laundry bags for the Women’s Refuge. “At our last exhibition we made hero quilts and laundry bags for servicemen and women deployed overseas,” Mrs Lodding said.

The group meets the last Monday of each month at the Salvation Army hall at 7:30 pm and each Tuesday from 10 am to 4 pm and new members are always welcome.
