Margaret King, current Chair of Griffith Local Health Advisory Committee urges residents from all different backgrounds to join the LHAC.

Margaret King will step down from her position as Chair of Griffith Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) in April 2025, and has snagged the title of 2024 NSW Health Volunteer of the Year as testament of all her hard work in the role.

As Chair of Griffith LHAC, Ms King has been instrumental in providing feedback and community views to the redevelopment of Griffith Base Hospital.

A prominent and highly regarded member of the Griffith community, Ms King has been a tireless champion across many voluntary and healthy advocacy roles for more than a decade.

She was presented with her award at the 2024 NSW Health Awards in Sydney on Thursday, October 24.

Ms King said winning the award was incredibly exciting.

“I was thrilled just to make it to the four finalists, but to win was a huge thrill.

“It’s a great way to end my term on LHAC in a few months.”

Ms King is the third consecutive LHAC Chair from within the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) to take out the prestigious NSW Health Volunteer of the Year Award, following

Finley LHAC Chair Syd Dudley in 2023 and Wagga LHAC Chair Garth Hungerford in 2022.

The hat trick for Murrumbidgee shines a light on the importance of LHACs as volunteer advocates in their communities.

LHAC members play an active role in advocating for better health in their communities and are a vital communication link.

LHACs contribute to health service planning and provide advice and feedback to the local health district and to the primary health network about what matters most to them in their local towns.

LHAC members also play an important role in health literacy and education by providing information to the community about services available and how to access them.
