Tremendous community response has guided the Murrumbidgee Council’s revised Community Strategic Plan, a draft of which is currently on public display.

Ideas and feedback from the community during the Council’s first round of engagement for the key strategic document have been incorporated into the draft.

Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae described the response as tremendous, with nearly 15 per cent of locals responding to the community survey alone, with great feedback also received on social media and through other Council channels.

“The survey reaffirmed what we all know about our Council area; that people, community and lifestyle are the best features, all making the Murrumbidgee such a fantastic play to live, work and play,” Cr McRae said.

“We received excellent ideas and feedback and have now gone through each of them to determine the best way forward.

“Not all community aspirations fall under the domain of Council, but if we know that something is a strong priority of the community, we can advocate for this service or action.

“They are achieved by us all working together with involvement, at various times, by all levels of government, businesses, industry groups, community organisations and individuals.

Partnerships are integral to achieving these shared values and visions. “Likewise, some aspirations need to be tweaked to make them more achievable and to address constraints outside of Council’s control and unique to a small, rural area.”

Councillor McRae said that after such an impressive reaction from the community, Council was now calling on people to take a look at the resulting draft plan and provide comments.

“We are inviting members of the community to review the draft plan and provide comments,” she said.

“We are hoping to get another fantastic community response.” The draft plan can be found at each Murrumbidgee Council office and on the website.

It will also be on public exhibition until 12noon on May 24.

Comments can be provided by emailing the General Manager, Mr John Scarce, at mail@murrumbidgee.nsw.gov.au, dropping suggested changes into any of the Council officers or posting them to PO Box 96, Jerilderie, NSW 2716.

Community input received during the exhibition period will be incorporated into the draft plan and presented to the May Council Meeting for endorsement.
