Murrumbidgee Shire welcomed the area’s newest citizens at a formal Citizenship Ceremony in Jerilderie on Thursday, June 16.

Taking the pledge were Charme and John Van der Walt, Michaela Walsh and Jane McMillan.

“It’s a proud day for us and a great achievement and privilege to become Australian citizens,” Mr Van der Walt said.

Families and friends were on hand to support the new citizens at the momentous occasion, which marked the exciting culmination of a long journey.

Murrumbidgee Council Mayor, Ruth McRae said citizenship ceremonies were a very rewarding part of her role as Mayor and she was delighted to officially confer Australian citizenship on each candidate.

“The candidates were all so proud and honoured to become Australian citizens,” Councillor McRae said.

“Diversity is our greatest strength and our new citizens are now part of our evolving Australian story.

“The genuing pride that each new Austrlaian feels is evident at every single ceremony.

“I warmly congratulate all the conferees for officially becoming Australians and wish them every success for their future in the Murrumbidgee Council area.”

Murrumbidgee Council holds a number of citizenship ceremonies throughout the year.
