Opera Australia brings The Barber of Seville to Griffith Regional Theatre during its 26th annual national tour on Saturday, July 30.

One of the most popular operas ever penned will be performed at Griffith Regional Theatre on Saturday, July 30 from 7.30pm.

The Barber of Seville, as directed by Priscilla Jackman, is an opera that young and old alike will enjoy, with all the comedic antics of a very helpful, and resourceful, barber and a case of love at first sight with a few hurdles in the way of happily ever after.

This production marks the 26th annual national tour from Opera Australia, who began touring back in 1996.

Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Marg Andreazza invited the public to enjoy the show.

“Catch up with the one-and-only Opera Australia right here in Griffith; no need to travel to Sydney to see The Barber of Seville,” Mrs Andreazza said.

“Plus our prices are more agreeable, too, with adult tickets $50 and member sonly $35.”

Over the years, Opera Australia has presented many of the country’s finest singers and musicians to more than 30,000 people across 117 metropolitan and regional locations.

Opera Australia’s Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini has impressed the ongoing value the National Tour has in increasing audience access to world-class performances.

“The National Tour remains a key opportunity and a great pleasure for Opera Australia to bring exceptional talent to a broad range of audiences, particularly those living in regional areas,” he said.

“Many of this cast are coming directly from acclaimed seasons at the Sydney Opera House and Arts Centre, Melbourne to perform ini a premiere production for audiences right in their hometowns.”

Award-winning director, Priscilla Jackman brings a hipster aesthetic to the famous barber, Figaro and presents leading lady, Rosina as more than just a pretty face.

The story of wealthy, stealthy Almaviva who is head-over-heels for witty, pretty and equally-smitten Rosina is set in the real-life Victorian town of Seville, nestled amongst the renowned Yarra Valley wine region.

Of course, there is a little problem - Rosina’s betrothed.

Enter Figaro, the enterprising barber with wits and tricks as sharp as his scissors, taking on clever disguises and scheming to wrangle a romantic encounter for the would-be lovers.

Be prepared for comic chaos.

Theatre manager, Mrs Andreazza invited Theatre members to enjoy complimentary drinks and nibbles at a pre-show function.

“After you purchase your tickets to the opera, just contact the Box Office to RSVP and if you’re not a member, now is the perfect time to sign up,” she said.
