New equipment for Griffith Base Hospital’s maternity unit has been funded by the Griffith Base Hospital Auxiliary, who also announce the reopening of The Griffith Hospital Kiosk.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions impacting their operation, the group have been able to purchase equipment on the Hospital’s wish list.
They have bought an Oculus Quest machine for paediatrics, a stretcher bed for oncology, bladder scanner for maternity as GS Core SU Scope and three isolation trolleys.
Donated goods such as these are funded by kiosk takings and consequential volunteering to ensure its operation, as well as generous community donations. Since 2019 the Auxiliary has proudly donated total funds in excess of $200,000.
“It has been an amazing effort by our 120 volunteers, who dedicate time each week to assist in the kiosk, as well as helping in other fundraising events during the year,” President of the Griffith Hospital Mrs Bruna Ross said.
“We had interruptions to our usual fundraising activities last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but we still have managed to raise so much, including over $70,000 for a new ultrasound kiosk system due to arrive soon.”
The Griffith Hospital Auxiliary began in 1931 and raises funds through a range of activities including the hospital kiosk, the annual street stall, the spring luncheon and the yearly Christmas raffle.
With COVID restrictions easing the kiosk is now back in operation, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm offering a range of fruits, snacks, drinks, crafts and other home-made delights for patients, staff and visitors.
