Scramble for place in VW regional finals

The first place team of Terry Bennett, Col Vearing, Jason Magoci and James Nancarrow with sponsor Dean Owen at Griffith Golf Club.
The Volkswagen Scramble golf tournament is becoming a favourite for golfers, with intense competition throughout the region in its third season.
The third of four rounds was played at Griffith Golf Club on February 14, with 132 players taking to the green.
Terry Bennett, Col Vearing, Jason Magoci and James Nancarrow took first place with 54.4 Nett.
Mark Townsend, Riley Townsend, Peter Middlebrook and Jeff Wiscombe landed second with 54.62 Nett.
Both teams are off to the regional finals in Canberra during April after their impressive performance.
The final round of the local Volkswagen Scramble round is next month in Hillston.
Sponsor Dean Owen encourages players to register early, given the Scramble’s annual popularity.
“In the three seasons that Griffith City Volkswagen have been involved in the Volkswagen Scramble, numbers have grown consecutively,” Mr Owen said.
“This 2020-2021 season Griffith Golf Club’s registrations have reached full capacity. This is another reason why we now host four events per season between Griffith, Leeton and Hillston.”
Over the past three years, organisers have had over a dozen local teams progress to the regional finals and even one local team who made it all the way to national finals at the Sunshine Coast in 2019.
Mr Owen said it doesn’t have to be competitive, with teams who sign up for a friendly day on the green and to enjoy the continuous barbecue catered by Griffith City Volkswagen.
“We have some fantastic players in the local area so it’s a good challenge to those who are up for it,” Mr Owen said.
Register at vwscramble.com.au to play in this year’s fourth and final round at the Hillston Golf Club on March 20.
