MIA Tennis Open Celebrates 100 Years

04-06-2021

Julie Napoli played her last game with the Griffith Tennis Club on Monday night, April 26. She has hung up her Griffith tennis racquet for a sea change. The ladies gave her a fond farewell as they thought back over the 18 years she has organised the Monday Night Ladies Tennis. Over the years, Mrs Napoli had found some very creative team names for the group and done her best to arrange players so that teams were as even as possible. After play, the group enjoyed a farewell supper before presenting Mrs Napoli with gifts and praise for all the work she had done for the Tennis Club. The Griffith Tennis Club has a variety of social competitions and tournaments for all ages and skill levels throughout the year. They are also the host of the longest running sporting event in Griffith's history, the MIA Open which runs annually over the June long weekend. Situated at Noorilla Street, beside Jubilee Park, the club features four synthetic grass courts and 11 traditional clay courts. It also boasts a proud history of community sporting participation and achievements. The club offers coaching for those interested in learning the sport, and runs coaching clinics throughout the year. The Girffith Tennis Club is managed by a committee of volunteers.
