Farrer MP Sussan Ley has announced over $50 million in roadworks throughout her electorate, as part a joint Federal/NSW Government Road Safety funding package.

Ms Ley said the work will deliver improved road surfacing and shoulder seals, rumble strips, median upgrades and safety barriers, and will start almost immediately.

“In coming months you’ll see workers on the Newell Hwy north of Grong Grong and near Landervale Rd. This is in addition to major upgrades planned between Finley and Tocumwal.

“There’s also improvements on Burley Griffin Way from the outskirts of Yoogali, and a 29km section of the Mid Western Highway between Goolgowi and Hay.

“The Australian Government takes road safety seriously, investing in critical projects like these to help prevent crashes, making a real difference to the day-to-day lives of Australians by providing safer, smoother journeys and greater peace of mind,” Ms Ley said.

The local work is among 261 priority projects to be delivered across NSW by June this year under the Australian Government’s ‘use it or lose it’ provisions.

‘Use it or lose it’ require states and territories to use funds within a timeframe or risk them being reallocated. It is designed to fast-track safety work to better protect road users, while also supporting local jobs and economies as we emerge from COVID-19 restrictions.

In total, the Australian Government has committed up to $300 million and NSW a further $108.2 million to fund the state-wide upgrades. Details are at www.officeofroadsafety.gov.au
